Emmanuel COGIC   - York, Pennsylvania
                 Where God is glorified,
the Word of God is magnified,
and the people of God are edified.....
History:

In 1945 Elder Walter Wise was commissioned by his pastor to go to York, Pennsylvania to start a Church of God in Christ in the community.  At that time he was a member of the Emmanuel COGIC in Steelton, Pennsylvania.

Looking for a place to start his church, which he also called Emmanuel, Elder Wise and his wife had the first services in a garage on Codorus Street.  Later they purchased a log cabin on Codorus Street and rebuilt it into a church.

Every Sunday, Elder Wise would travel to York with his wife and children to preach to four women who also came to the services.

In 1961 Elder Wise purchased land in the 600 block of East Princess Street and began construction on another church building.  Much of the work was performed by Elder Wise and the building was completed in 1963 with the help of a few men.

The congregation worshipped at the new location for the next 25 years.  They were left without a church home when the building collapsed during the blizzard of 1996.

In January 1997, the congregation moved to its current location at 825 East Princess Street.
